Melissa Borja (University of Michigan) will present "(Ad)ministering Resettlement: How US Refugee Policies Changed Hmong Religious Life".
In this talk, Borja will discuss how religious organizations, especially Christian organizations, play an important part in US refugee resettlement policy. Focusing on the experiences of Hmong Americans, she will talk about how the government's reliance on religious institutions carries both possibility and peril, and how seemingly non-religious refugee policies can in fact have a powerful impact on the religious choices of refugees.
