Lecture by Catherine Conybeare (Bryn Mawr College)
September 23, 2025
5:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Cocke Hall, Balz Philosophy Library
Join Prof. Catherine Conybeare, Leslie Clark Professor in the Humanities and Professor of Greek, Latin, and Classical Studies at Bryn Mawr College, for her talk about her new book, Augustine the African. (Link to the book’s website is here.)
Augustine of Hippo (354–430), also known as Saint Augustine, was one of the most influential theologians in history. For many centuries, Augustine’s North African birth and Berber heritage have been simply dismissed. Catherine Conybeare, a world-renowned Augustine scholar, puts the “African” back in Augustine’s story.
For scholars in classics, ancient history, late antiquity, early Christianity, and the Middle Ages.
